Is blogging (and reading blogs) a waste of time? I’ve been dwelling on this question most of the week. I find that much of what I read at the various blogs I visit, while interesting, is not something I would be the worse off for having missed. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy reading people’s thoughts on theological subjects or the practical outworking of our faith. The interaction between bloggers and commentors brings a dynamic to the web that static sites do not provide and that has attracted me to blogs. I find though, that I’ve become a person who skims posts quickly to get a feel for what is being said and then I move on to the next blog without giving any real thought to what I read. I miss the days where I spent hours in a book wrestling with what the author wrote. Of course it is possible for me to be an avid blogger ( and blog reader) and spend a fair amount of time with printed works as well. I think Tim Challies is a great example in that regard. I’m just not sure I want to spend much time scanning the blogosphere anymore. I think that these feelings coincide with a recurring thought of mine that Internet is just plain boring. Well, enough of this blogging about whether blogging is a waste of time. It’s just a phase. I’ll be over it sometime next week I’m sure

Doug McHone asked for a Firefox searchbar plugin for Theopedia so I created one. You can get it here. There are a few plugins I’ve created for other sites available as well.

After 3 weeks preaching on heaven Jim Newheiser, an elder at Grace Bible Church, my home church, preached to us about hell. You can download the sermon here. Later in the day on Sunday, at our intern & leadership training meeting we spent our time discussing the topic of hell further. We looked at some of the various views on hell that have been put forth throughout the centuries. A good portion of the time was spent addressing annihilationism and specifically the form of annihilationism held to by some evangelicals. One of the interns recorded the meeting and if I can get a hold of the audio I will make it available.

Jim Newheiser, one of the elders at our church, has been preaching a series on heaven. This past Sunday’s sermon was excellent! I missed the first message in the series but have been told that it was very good. Tomorrow (Oct. 16) will be third and final message in the series. If you are interested in downloading the sermon when it is available check here.
