Beverage Lingo

Pop vs. Soda

What do you drink: “soda”, “pop”, or “coke” (no matter what brand it is)? Website popvssoda.com collects responses from visitors to the site and displays the results in a nice map. Unfortunately it looks like the map is no longer being updated (the map is from 2002). The statistics section, however, appears to be up to date.

Stopwatch

Stopwatch #2Stopwatch is a simple stopwatch utility that I created as I was playing with the System.Windows.Forms.Timer and System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch classes in .Net 2.0. Features include starting, stopping, and restarting the stopwatch. Actually, those are the only features…real basic. Feel free to download it if you like. .Net Framework 2.0 is required to run this app.

What I’m Listening To - April 23, 2007

I’ve been using last.fm to find new music and so far I’ve been fairly pleased. Below are a few new indie-rock, post-rock tracks/bands I’ve come across that you should check out.

If any of you readers are last.fm users I’d love to hear from you so I can add you to my last.fm “Friends” list. You can find my last.fm page here.

My Desktop - April 21, 2007

It’s Saturday and there’s no need to post anything too serious so here are more desktop screenshots. That’s Windows Media Player 11 on Windows Vista Enterprise. The second photo demonstrates Vista’s live thumbnail preview functionality. I’ve reduced the clutter in the quicklaunch bar by using the programmable shortcut keys on my keyboard.

Lifelong Learning

Yesterday I wrote that I’ll be finishing college in about a month. The end of my formal education (at least for now) doesn’t mean I’m done learning. I love learning and will continue to do all I can to further my intellectual growth throughout the rest of my life. Podcasting presents a great opportunity for doing just that.

Schools like UC Berkeley are now podcasting many class lectures. After finishing school in May I plan to begin listening to the lectures from Econ 100A: Economic Analysis - Micro. There are many other classes available. I encourage you to check out Berkeley’s offerings if you’re interested in getting exposure to subject areas that may be outside of your expertise or training.
