Graduation Countdown
In about a month I will finally be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. It has been a long, but rewarding, road and I’m looking forward to being finished. I’ve put a graduation countdown badge in the sidebar to the right (on the main page). If you’re reading this in an RSS reader you’ll need to visit this blog directly to see what I’m talking about.

The Best of Both Worlds
This semester I’m taking a class entitled “Society and Culture in Early Modern Europe”. We’ve spent a considerable time reading and writing about the witch hunts and witchcraft trials that consumed Europe between the 15th and 18th centuries.
One rather disturbing witchcraft trial involved three women convicted of being witches on the isle of Guernsey in 1617. The isle of Guernsey, located in the English Channel, was a French-speaking possession of the English crown at the time. The women were hanged according to English custom and then were burned according to French custom. What an excellent blend of cultural values! (that’s sarcasm incase you didn’t pick up on it).

Science and Faith: Dr. Francis S. Collins
CNN has an intersting article by Dr. Francis S. Collins, director of the National Human Genome Research Institute, on why he sees no conflict between science and religious faith. Below is an excerpt from the article.
As a graduate student in physical chemistry in the 1970s, I was an atheist, finding no reason to postulate the existence of any truths outside of mathematics, physics and chemistry. But then I went to medical school, and encountered life and death issues at the bedsides of my patients. Challenged by one of those patients, who asked “What do you believe, doctor?”, I began searching for answers.

You Who Are Spiritual…
Today Yesterday at Grace Bible Church we had Dr. John Street of The Master’s College with us and he preached on Galatians 6:1. This was a great message on our responsibility to help our brothers and sisters who are overwhelmed by sin. I especially appreciated how Dr. Street spent time in the sermon on putting this verse in its context in the book of Galatians.
