Over the past 7 years I’ve been using a Bible reading plan put out by Discipleship Journal for my daily Bible reading. The plan takes you through the entire Bible in one year by reading from 4 different places in Scripture each day. The last 2 years I’ve ended up deviating from the plan so I’ve been looking for something different to use for 2007. I’ve decided to go with the One Year Chronological Bible. Juice used it this past year and has really enjoyed reading through the Bible chronologically so I thought I would give it a shot.

I just finished 1776 by David McCullough. I received this book as a Christmas present and was instantly drawn into the drama of this very important year in the American Revolution. This is the first book that I’ve read by McCullough and I’m sure it won’t be the last. He writes in such a way that I found myself gripped by a story whose outcome is already familiar to me. Tonight I’ll begin another book given to me as a Christmas present. Although this time the focus is the Civil War.

The last few days I haven’t read much of Missional Church and instead have been doing more Bible reading. The time I’ve spent reading the Bible this week has been very enjoyable. I’ve realized that I must be careful not to substitute reading about the Bible for actually reading the Bible. It would be a shame to only have secondhand knowledge of the Bible when it is so easily available to me.

like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord (NASB).

I recently finished The Hidden Power of Electronic Culture and The Da Vinci Code and have now moved on to Missional Church: A Vision for the Sending of the Church in North America, edited by Darrell Guder.
I’m really enjoying the amount of reading I’ve been able to get done so far this summer. During the semester I have nearly no time to read something not related to school work. I’ve been greatly refreshed these last few weeks.

I saw The Da Vinci Code movie without having read the book and thought the film was ok. I’ve recently begun reading the book and now know why so many were disappointed with the film. The book is much more engaging, but at the same time so laughable. Langdon’s Mickey Mouse watch is great!
