PicLens - Media Browsing the Fun Way

Ryan Wentzel on July 15th, 2008

If you haven’t heard of PicLens yet I encourage you to visit the PicLens website and download the PicLens browser plugin.

PicLens enables you to view media-rich websites in a “3D wall”. The YouTube video below demonstrates how it works.

So far I’ve only used PicLens while browsing through photos on Flickr and it has worked wonderfully. Your mileage may vary.

Twittering

Ryan Wentzel on July 9th, 2008

Well, I did it. I recently signed up for a Twitter account and have published a few “tweets”.

What is twitter? The Twitter folks answer that question like this:

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

You can follow me at http://twitter.com/ryanwentzel.

Stopwatch

Ryan Wentzel on April 29th, 2007

Stopwatch #2Stopwatch is a simple stopwatch utility that I created as I was playing with the System.Windows.Forms.Timer and System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch classes in .Net 2.0. Features include starting, stopping, and restarting the stopwatch. Actually, those are the only features…real basic. Feel free to download it if you like. .Net Framework 2.0 is required to run this app.

Windows Vista Tip: How to Eliminate Choppy Audio

Ryan Wentzel on March 31st, 2007

I’ve been using Windows Vista on my home PC for about two months now and have been fairly happy with it. However, one of the more annoying problems I’ve encountered is choppy audio playback. While listening to my music collection the audio will stutter every few minutes. A quick Google search pointed me toward this post on the Dell Forums. The information on the Dell Forums contains a link to a sound card driver update as well as a possible fix in case the driver update does not solve the problem. The fix is this:

  • Open the Control Panel and Click on “Hardware and Sound”
  • In the sound category click on “Manage audio devices”
  • Right-click on “Speakers and Headphones” and then choose the “Enhancements” tab.
  • In the Enhancements tab check the “Disable all enhancements” checkbox and click “Ok” and “Ok” once more to exit.

This seemed to do the trick for me.

Digital Pen

Ryan Wentzel on February 16th, 2007

While reading an article at CNN Money I came across this digital pen from Logitech. From Logitech’s website:

Eliminate re-keying and slash your paperwork time! Go directly from ink to the software and applications you use most often. Back up and quickly retrieve handwritten documents on your PC. It’s all possible with the Logitech io2 Digital Pen. The io2 pen fits your hand like a premium pen, so you can write comfortably. Take notes or draw sketches in ink on the smart paper, and a tiny camera captures your work, storing up to 40 pages at a time. Intelligent power management maximizes every battery charge.

At $150 I’m certainly not going to be buying one, but it looks like a great gradget nonetheless.
