Yes, I know. I’ve started photoblogs in the past so why another? The simple answer is that I felt like it

This time around I’ve secured a domain name, created another custom Wordpress theme to fit my needs, and have left some room for growth. You can find my new photoblog at http://ryanwentzelphotography.com/blog. What does all this mean for this blog? Well, I’m not sure how much I’ll be posting here from now on, if at all. I’ll be doing Friday photo posts at Ryan Wentzel Photography when I remember. Stop on by and let me know what you think of the new site.

San Diego, Apples, Oktoberfest, and a Skeleton - Friday Photos

It’s been a year since I purchased my first digital SLR. Of the photos I’ve taken over the last year this one of the San Diego skyline has the most views (2000+) on my Flickr photostream.

I hoping to get a few more of the skyline in the coming months.

Last weekend I took the family up to Julian for the “Apple Days” and Oktoberfest celebrations. It’s becoming a tradition of sorts. We had fun listening to live music, walking down Main Street, and picking apples.

Earlier in the week I went with my wife and boys to the San Diego Natural History Museum. The boys had a lot of fun looking at fossils, bones, and maps.

Several months ago I purchased the Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens and have been very, very pleased with it. I really enjoy using this lens in low light situations and for portraits. Each of the shots below were taken with it.

I took a quick trip to the east coast a few weeks ago. This photo was taken somewhere between Nashville and San Diego on my return trip.

We spent a morning at Mission Bay recently. My boys had a great time playing by the water. In this shot I caught my oldest in a more contemplative moment.

PicLens - Media Browsing the Fun Way

If you haven’t heard of PicLens yet I encourage you to visit the PicLens website and download the PicLens browser plugin.

PicLens enables you to view media-rich websites in a “3D wall”. The YouTube video below demonstrates how it works.

So far I’ve only used PicLens while browsing through photos on Flickr and it has worked wonderfully. Your mileage may vary.

Simple Summaries of the Branches of Theology

Graeme Goldsworthy, in his excellent book According to Plan: The Unfolding Revelation of God in the Bible, provides a few brief, but helpful summaries of the various branches of theology. Make note of these summaries since they will likely prove to be useful in helping someone else understand the different theological disciplines.

Systematic theology asks:

What should Christians believe now about any aspect of Christianity? Its results: Christian doctrine.

Historical theology asks:

What have Christians believed about their faith at any given time? Its results: A record of the development of Christian doctrine.

Pastoral theology asks:

How should Christians minister to one another so that they grow to maturity in Christian living? Its results: Care and growth in the local church.

Biblical theology asks:

By what process has God revealed himself to mankind? Its results: The relating of the whole Bible to our Christian life now.
